so... I have entered relationship hell... not MY relationships (ha ha)... the relationships of those around me... on the one hand is that happily partnered girlfriend who spends half her time with the guy and talks to him constantly online. on the other hand is the mopey desperate girl who doesn't know what to say to/how to get the guy. it is, however, a fascinating to watch anthropologically.
Yesterday night, mission wolf came to Cornell and did a presentation in Appell. Their program is actually fascinating... it'd be awesome to be able to volunteer there for a few months. You should all check it out: http://www.missionwolf.com/. They brought two live wolves on leashes that they ran around the room. I, unfortunately, go their later so I didn't get a front row seat so I didn't get a chance to be sniffed/licked but everyone go to pet Abraham (so he's not 100% wolf, his head/feet are smaller and his butt is rounder/bouncier), the teenager (who kept trying to bite (lovingly) the handler). He was so fluffy ^^ their winter coats had already started to come in so they were about 3-4 inches long and on a run-by you couldn't feel the muscle underneath... just plush fuzzy warmth. We couldn't get him to howl but he did this sort of strangled gurgling thing which I later found out was him laughing at our pathetic attempts at howling ^^;; I forgot to bring my camera :(
So, I've been going to my chem lecture rather regularly, and then today, I forget to wear sneakers/bring the group snack for my gym course (right after chem) so I leave early to run back to my dorm and get crap and the prof decides that TODAY is the right day to hand back the prelims at the end of class >> grrrrrrrrrr DAMN YOU MURPHY... so now my TA probably thinks I skip chem all the time @-@ he already thinks i'm an idiot cuz I always forgot to wear closed toed shoes at the beginning of the year so I always had to run to change so I arrived late and out of breath (you have to climb 5 stories to get to the lab) AND during the first lab I used a rubber-coated metal holder instead of an uncoated holder over a bunsen burner >> and because the person before me never dries out the equipment I have to spend the first five/ten minutes drying everything so I get my stuff/finish after everybody else does @-@ my reign of chem lab incompetency continues!
but anyways...
MY GYM CLASS IS EPIC.
So we went tyroguing (not the pokemon... i just don't know how its actually spelled) over the gorge (kind of like a zip line except not so slanted/taut so you can bounce around the middle and do flips) and people kept walking by. There was a running club that looked miserable that commented on the sheer awesomeness of the activity. There was also a group of trustees dressed up in formal clothes who thought we said "tightroping" and came back five minutes later to ask "So you're actually going to WALK on that?" AND the most memorable person was a nurse and her husband. Her first question: Did you rig that up? Second question: Is it safe? (NOOOOOO.... We just hang off of it and bet who falls off first and whether or not they'll survive) Her husband expressed a desire to try it before SHE pointed out: But honey, you're afraid of heights! yea... fun. |

oh great goods of dell! i loathe you with the marrow of my bones! so. apparently they were going to deliver my laptop battery to my house while my mom would be in china. so i called them to either a) change the delivery address to my house or b) delay the delivery. and they told me to cancel my order and reorder. and i'd have to go through the month and a half wait again. ha ha dell. ha ha. YOU SUCK THE LIFE OUT OF ME
anyways.
at the dump and run sale. my roomie bought sidewalk chalk. so we went out one day and drew the fruit bowl scene (very simplified) on the sidewalk outside our window :) its gotten rained off in the past few days but we got a picture (on my roomie's camera). also, i found this trail that leads down into the gorge by the tennis courts. it goes to this really nice secluded place (there is no privacy in a 13k person campus) with a half-tree house (it only has two walls and a floor, no roof) that i'm too chicken to climb up into :\ but its nice
we went down to go swimming in the gorge the other day and we kinda walked in on a frat party ^^;; there were beer cans every where even though most of the people hadn't gotten there yet. we climbed up the "waterfall" to the deeper part and there were people jumping off the higher up falls. it was deep enough that i couldn't touch bottom if i submerged and went down like... a foot so i didn't try to find it. the water was murky... and kinda foamy... but it still has the novelty of swimming in a gorge under a waterfall. the national parks always manage to fence their "natural pools" off from anything resembling a drop. we left after more people showed up to drink and be merry.
so my meal plan has $500 in big red bucks that i can use to buy food on campus. originally i'd tried it in the vending machines and it wasn't working. BUT. yesterday i went down to do laundry and swiped my ID on a whim and lo and behold! i have 487.43 dollars to purchase oily snack foods and tooth-decaying sweets! 8D and there's a smoothie bar in my dorm. that sells brownies and cookies and pastries. and... CHEESECAKE. and there's a cafe that sells bubble tea right down the road.
so a girl in my engineering advisor group told us a joke.
What's the difference between an engineer and a social engineer? The social engineer looks at YOUR feet when they talk to you XD I'm allowed to laugh because i am one of those regular engineers >>
so yea.
infrequent internet use woohoo! |

| We're Back |
[Jul. 27th, 2008|12:50 pm] |
Soooo... Stacy and I got back yesterday night after a 16-hour journey, most of which was spent staring blankly at movies.
I got my hair cut... the ten inches for Locks of Love and then they took off another four for who knows what reason >> So now I has short hair that doesn't tie up ;-;
And my mother decided that telling me about the Cornell mail I get wasn't very important so I JUST made the deadline for my housing contract (Apparently they called on friday saying that if i didn't sign within 48 hours i'd lose my housing >>) and she got angry at me for being pissed =.= oh yea... and I have to read a book on Gettysburg and Abe Lincoln and write a short response to it . fun fun fun! best 50 out of the what... 3k incoming freshmen class? get $200 worth of books... which I want but don't even hope to get. ha ha
and I got all 5s on my APs ^^ which I kinda expected cuz my mother didn't go "WHY THE HELL DID YOU ONLY GET A 4 ON ___________" as soon as I walked into the house @-@
soooo... china was fun... horrible but fun... I'd say I'd post pictures except it seems i never really get around to doing that.
my roommate is... very normal sounding ;-; except she also seems like a science geek (bio major 8D)
soooo... have people seen The Dark Knight yet? Or plan on going? I watched Batman Begins on the plane back and now I wanna see its sequel >.>
ARGH english skills go FFLLLLLLLLPPPPP. mostly vocab and spelling. so nice to hear unaccented english again ^^ |

[May. 25th, 2008|01:41 am] |
OK... SO... i was supposed to look up taxi services for prom...
but i have encountered a few problems: a) none of them have websites b) I only have local phone service and a phone card that has 6 in-state minutes left on it... c) I left the prom invitation at school so i don't know exactly where it is so i can't even call the one in hillsborough to get a quote >>
so if anyone could possibly call these places, there's a good list here: http://shopprinceton.com/transindex.html
other than that... today was... interesting
my mom got chainsaw happy D:
we're doing yardwork cuz our trees and stuff 'need' pruning to conform with the general shape of trees that you find in suburban neighborhood (and they get in teh way of lawnmowers XD) and one of our coniferous trees... not sure what it is exactly decided to grow an interestingly placed appendage... by interestingly placed i mean HORIZONTAL... so that needed to be.. taken care of...
we also have this stand of roses... ok we USED to ahve this stand of roses...
last year me lovely mother decided it needed some pruning... so she pruned... ALOT... and by this year... only 3 stemmy things are left alive... so she decided to prune off the dead parts (which i admist there are alot of...) and ACCIDENTALLY pruned off two of the three live parts... leaving us with one... single... 5 foot long rose stem... that needs to be propped up -___-
i bemoan the roses.
and my hands got all sappy cuz i got the lovely job of grabbing the branches as my mother chainsawed them off the confier so i spent about ten minutes rubbing flour on and off my hands to keep them from sticking to every surface i touched...
AFTERWARDS
WE WENT TO A SUSHI BUFFET. I got so full i felt like if i ate more i'd puke... on the ride home i actually wished i would throw up because it was so friggin uncomfortable... like my stomach turned into a solid rubber LUMP that threatened to ooze out of my esophagus with every jolt of the car @-@
but that place was AMAZING... it had these japanese "salads" (not made with leafy green vegetables... salmon skin, seawead, dry tofu, cucumber, etc etc etc) and this kinda sweet raw fish warpped around cucumber and drizzled with sauce... mmmm... AND SO MUCH SUSHI @_@ shrimp tempura rolls, soft shell crab tempura rolls, roast eel, fish roe (the little ones) rolls, weird bright green stuff rolls... AND OMG THE TEMPURA
GIANT HEAPS OF TEMPURA (<3 buffets)
and of course miso soup ^^ and these giant shrimp thingies... about six inches long and an inch in diameter... not crayfish... just... giant shrimp...
i wanna go back everyday >> except its like... 21 dollars a meal... and i'm not fat enough to eat that much stuff *bemoans non giant stomach*
aaanndd
I'm hooked on Muppets... its so... violent Oo Usually when i think muppets two things come to mind:
a) mahna mahna (do dooo do do do... do do do dooo...) b) Sesame Street
neither of which are particularly violent... especially not sesame street (blech)
but i decided to watch a few clips (from the youtube off of the mahna mahna vid) and... they have people exploding... getting eaten by furniture... being used as golfballs... being beaten up... etc etc etc... and its all funny as it happens 8D
and its such a lovely break from teh PERVINESS of modern day television/life
oh and british tv
had to do the laundry at 11:30 (pm) at which time its either watch news... sports... or channel 58 (i have no cable >>) and channel 58 just happened to be british shows today...
THERMOMAN! it has a freaky talking baby that trashtalks the british airlines. and all in a british accent which can make practically anything funny.
and the vicar of dilby... in which she danced around in a giant pumpkin suit... the british version of 99 bottles of beer on teh wall is so much more musical...
so yea...

| Lazy Days are Good |
[May. 17th, 2008|11:10 pm] |
ahh... so today was... "fun"
there was a greek festival near rutgers and despite my fears it was NOT a recruiting thing for fraternities/sororities... it has greek foods! 8D
SOOOOo i had:
Pork Souvlaki: pork chunks on a stick with lotsa seasonings and stuff... it was gooooodddd... kinda tasted like the chinese lamb kabobs but with less cumin and more lemon
Mousaka: Baked Eggplant which was also goooodddd.... the flavor baked really nicely into the potato and the meat was delicious mmmmmmmm....
Pastitsio: baked macaroni over meat... this was ok... nothing special... i mean... its just pasta and meat... now where have i had THAT before...?
Spanakopita: BLECHH EWWWW... spinach and cheese baked in a flaky crust... the flaky crust was good... the spinach/cheese tasted like chinese herbal medicines (bitter) mixed with old milk (disgusting) ~_______~
Dolmades: grape leaves stuffed with rice ... teh rice was good... the leaves were bitter... more medicine taste please!
Keftedes: Greek meatballs were AMAZING... you knwo how the school meatballs are dry and disgusting... well these managed to be dry and NOT disgusting! the texture was actually complimentary to the taste with all the seasoning and it was yummy
Loukoumades: fried dough balls dipped in honey then sprinkled with cinnamon and sesame seeds....... these were awesome cuz they were made there in front of you... the insides were most and chewy while the outside was crunchy and sweet... mmmm
yea.... Deanna actually made loukoumades for the cultural festival though since they're from sicily which has been both greek and italian its ok ;D they weren't as good as the fresh made ones but that's to be expected...
speaking of the cultural festival I CAN NOT BELIEVE WE PULLED THAT OFF as you all know... i am NOT renowned for my planning skills... organization... general ability to DO what i'm supposed to... but people actually came today 8D and brought stuff 8D and did stuff 8D we had crepes ^^ i was expecting the batter to not show up... or half the people who volunteered... or that i was supposed to sign up for a table... or do something administrative... ^^ fooooooooooooooood mmmm... (pakistany puffs, fake latkas, cake, malaysian banana wrap thingies, tamales, weird vegetarian sandwhich, really spicy chicken wing, crepes, apple sauce, fish mush, bad italian desserts, bad butter cookie thing... i swear i had more... but i can't remember... i want to be back there TT-TT)
-Start maple story rant- CPQ!!!! kekekekekekekekekekeke <3 smart high-leveled pqers :D the ones that are really close are awesome... even more fun that the ones that we just PWN... the ones that we GET pwned signify the search for a new party -____- there was this one pq before i knew wtf was going on that i got stranded... like... 100 hp, no pots in sight, no cleric... so i decided to just sit down... of course one of the chronos zapped me and GLIITTCHHH!!!! i was a chair ghost for the following 4 minutes and it was really funny cuz all my party members kinda went onto the same platform and sat around me smiling XD aaaannnddddd i'm not gonna go for the necklace :\ which needs 50 coins... i have 8... which is enough to get the level 48 wand so i'll do that and just let my party members pick up any other coins dropped and just level to 51.... the level grind @-@ -End maple story rant-
two funny things have come in the mail this past week: 1. I got accepted to Purdue University! No... i was not waitlisted... i was just... i dunno... forgotten? lost? but they obviously came to their senses and saw my awesomeness and came through... albeit a bit late...
2. I have been invited to the New Jersey Miss America Open Call XDDD this cracked me up... especially since I've seen Tina's beauty contest pictures... they're scary
yea... soooo... that's it...

| Lawyer joke and a playfair cipher |
[May. 4th, 2008|10:32 pm] |
I'm avoiding french homework so i'd though i'd entertain myself by creating a playfair cipher
OK So, I got this off of a) the tonight show (the joke) and b) wikipedia (and before that from national treasure) (the cipher)
At the convention for biological scientists, one researcher tells another that her lab has switched from using rats to lawyers. The second researcher asks, "Why?"
"Well, a) lawyers are becoming more plentiful than rats, b) the lab assistants don't get attached to the lawyers, and c) SI CT FC TC UM YB SI KX HR AT AX CV EV ZM XV ZL"
Part c is obviously the cipher.
Your Keyword is the answer to THIS riddle: Sometimes I can be bitter Sometimes I can be sour But most of the times I'm sweet Even when you pull me Or bite me Or shove me on a stick You've loved me since you were just a child Though you know now that our relation is bad for you
Hint #1: Answer to the riddle is 'candy' Hint #2: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playfair_cipher Hint #3: The code is in the 'spiral' pattern, the last letter at the center Hint #4: The table is (5x5): CBEFA GHIJK LMyOP RSTUV DWXZN |

does anyone in hillsborough have a copy of Neil Gaiman's "Smoke and Mirrors" and if yes, could i possibly borrow it?
The library has practically all his other books but not the one i NEED of course >> It contains 9 of the 15 gaiman poems i've found so far for english and I don't feel like buying it just for the course... or going to a book store and hand-copying all the poems... cuz they're LONG and i'm LAZY @-@ |

**** Does anyone know what to do if your tutoree person for NHS decides to give up and hire an actual professional to tutor them? ****
You know, if this were elementary school, you could make alot of money through the milk business.
:* milk is 40 cents and alot of people don't get their free milk that comes with their lunches :. you can get them to get the free milk, buy it for 10 cents, then resell it at 25 cents
problem is that nowadays a fifteen cent profit is... nothing. ten years ago it would have been like a fortune @-@
I started reading the panda manga thing archer got me for xmas and i discovered... SHOJO MANGA SUCKS
Quote (on the "rival" character) : "They can also help the main character and her counterpart finally get together." Side Quotes: "I give up. Get on this horse." "Really?! Thanks!"
- "Its also important that the rival is better overall, compared the main character" (yes... the grammar flaw is duly noted)
W. T. F.
THE ENTIRE POINT OF THE RIVAL IS TO NOOOOTTTTTTT HELP THE FRIGGIN MAIN CHARACTER. AND WHY THE HELL WOULD THE DUDE CHOOSE THE CRAPPY DITZY OVEREMOTIONAL LITTLE GIRL OVER THE SMARTER, PRETTIER, AND ALL IN ALL BETTER "RIVAL"?!?!?!?!
yea
but the panda's funny (and stupid) 8D
and... horror of horrors... my mother has decided that she likes rutgers' engineering program so i might actually end up going there if no other school accepts me *puts on religious robes and shakes sticks at buddha*
mmmmyep.... thats it |

The inevitable has happened ... my laptop power cord has died mere weeks after the final distress calls of my laptop battery... let us bow our heads and mourn.
And this just had to happen now 8D So basically my dad just gave me the next two pages of his website and told me that he needs it done by wednesday, preferably by monday (not happening now that i've essentially lost half a day's of work >>)
BUT you see, on tuesday, I will be sitting around with nothing to do for half a day at the Science Olympiad meet so I kind of have time. IF ANYONE HAS A SPARE DELL POWER CABLE/ADAPTOR I CAN BORROW ON TUESDAY, PLEASE LET ME D: I WILL ADORE THEY SHADOW FOREVER.
yea....... figures that its been exactly one year and one month so that warranty has just ran out so i have to buy a new one >> a;ofwieajldkfsj
AND RUTGERS STILL DOESN'T HAVE MY FUCKIN TRANSCRIPT WTF?!?!?! I've gotten my guidance counselour to send it TWICE already @-@ Both times before winter break, so the 10 business days to process it should be up right?!?!!?
